The TP-Link VIGI InSight S485(2.8mm) is an 8MP full-colour turret network camera recording up to 3840 x 2160 through a 2.8 mm F1.6 lens with a 111.4° horizontal view. Four IR and four white LEDs reach 30 m, and it adds human and vehicle classification, smart event detection, two-way audio, a microSD slot, PoE and an IP67 metal housing.

InSight S485(2.8mm) overview

The VIGI InSight S485 is a TP-Link 8MP full-colour turret network camera, and this listing is the 2.8 mm lens version. TP-Link's tagline is '4K Empowered. Security Reinvented.' It uses a 1/2.7" progressive scan CMOS sensor with a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160, and the main stream runs at up to 25 fps at resolutions from 3840 x 2160 down to 1280 x 720; TP-Link notes the frame rate is limited to 20 fps when the image is rotated 90° or 270° or when 120 dB WDR is turned on. The fixed 2.8 mm F1.6 lens on an M12 mount gives a 111.4° horizontal, 58.8° vertical and 134° diagonal field of view, and TP-Link's DORI distances for the 2.8 mm lens are 85 m to detect, 35 m to observe, 17 m to recognise and 8 m to identify, so the 2.8 mm version covers a wider scene than the 4 mm lens, which reaches further.

Night-time coverage comes from four 850 nm IR LEDs and four white LEDs, each with a 30 m range. White light allows full-colour images at night, IR gives conventional night vision, and the illuminator can be set to auto, scheduled, always on or always off. Minimum illumination is 0.005 lux, or 0 lux with IR or white light, with an IR-cut filter and unified, scheduled or automatic day/night switching. Image tools include 120 dB WDR (only DWDR is supported when People & Vehicle Analytics is enabled), BLC, 3D DNR, HLC and SmartIR, an SNR of 52 dB or more, up to four privacy masks and one ROI region. Shutter speed runs from 1/3 to 1/10,000 s, with slow shutter support.

Motion detection is enhanced with human and vehicle classification, which TP-Link says distinguishes humans and vehicles from other objects for more accurate event notifications. Smart events include intrusion, line-crossing, region entering and exiting, object abandoned and removal, loitering, people, vehicle, abnormal sound and scene change detection, plus video tampering detection and illegal-login exception alerts. People & Vehicle Analytics, which lets you search and filter for people or vehicles by attributes after an event, must be used with VIGI specified software. Alarm linkage covers memory card recording, message push, an audible warning and white light flashing. Two-way audio uses a built-in microphone, which records within a 5 m radius, and a built-in speaker, with environment noise filtering. Video can be compressed with H.265+, H.265, H.264+ and H.264 at 256 Kbps to 8 Mbps on the main stream; TP-Link states H.265+ saves 57.5% and 15% more storage than H.264 and H.265, based on laboratory testing with a 3MP VIGI camera, with actual results varying by activity, resolution and other variables.

The camera connects through one 10/100 Mbps RJ45 port with 802.3af/at PoE (class 0, maximum 12.5 W), or a 12 V DC input (maximum 11.5 W). A built-in memory card slot takes microSD cards up to 512 GB (card not included), and the camera supports ONVIF Profile S/T/G, RTSP and three main plus three sub-streams of simultaneous live view, managed through the VIGI app, VIGI Security Manager, Web UI, VIGI VMS and VIGI Cloud VMS. The metal turret housing is rated IP67, operates from -30 to 60 °C, weighs 0.48 kg and measures 111 x 111 x 83.7 mm, with manual adjustment of 360° pan, 75° tilt and 360° rotation. In the box are the camera, a quick start guide, waterproof cable attachments and mounting accessories.
