The TP-Link VIGI InSight S385(4mm) is an 8MP outdoor full-colour bullet network camera recording up to 3840 x 2160 through a 4 mm F1.6 lens with a 91.5° horizontal view and a DORI detect distance of 107 m. Two IR and two white LEDs reach 30 m, and it adds human and vehicle classification, smart event detection, two-way audio, a microSD slot, PoE and an IP67 metal housing.

InSight S385(4mm) overview

The VIGI InSight S385 is TP-Link's 8MP outdoor full-colour bullet network camera, and this listing is the 4 mm lens version. TP-Link's headline for it is '4K Empowered. Security Reinvented.' It uses a 1/2.7" progressive scan CMOS sensor with a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160. The main stream runs at up to 25 fps on both 50 Hz and 60 Hz, at resolutions from 3840 x 2160 down to 1280 x 720. TP-Link notes the frame rate is limited to 20 fps when the image is rotated 90° or 270°, or when 120 dB WDR is turned on. The fixed 4 mm F1.6 lens gives a 91.5° horizontal, 46.1° vertical and 109.6° diagonal field of view, and TP-Link's DORI distances for the 4 mm lens are 107 m to detect, 44 m to observe, 21 m to recognise and 11 m to identify, compared with 85, 35, 17 and 8 m for the 2.8 mm version.

For night-time, the S385 has two 850 nm IR LEDs and two white LEDs, each with a 30 m range. White light lets the camera capture full-colour images at night, while IR provides conventional night vision, and the illuminator can be set to auto, scheduled, always on or always off. Minimum illumination is 0.005 lux, or 0 lux with IR or white light, with an IR-cut filter and unified, scheduled or automatic day/night switching. Image tools include 120 dB WDR, BLC, 3D DNR, HLC and SmartIR, an SNR of 52 dB or more, up to four privacy masks and one ROI region. TP-Link describes True WDR as analysing and blending different exposures so bright and dark areas both stay properly exposed in high-contrast lighting; when People & Vehicle Analytics is enabled, only DWDR is supported.

Motion detection is enhanced with human and vehicle classification, which TP-Link says distinguishes humans and vehicles from other objects so you receive more accurate event notifications. Smart events include intrusion, line-crossing, region entering and exiting, object abandoned and removal, loitering, people, vehicle, abnormal sound and scene change detection, alongside video tampering and illegal-login alerts. Alarm linkage covers memory card recording, message push, an audible warning and white light flashing. People & Vehicle Analytics lets you search and filter for people or vehicles of interest by attribute, and must be used with VIGI specified software. Two-way audio uses the built-in microphone, which records within a 5 m radius, and the built-in speaker, with environment noise filtering. The main stream supports H.265+, H.265, H.264+ and H.264 at 256 Kbps to 8 Mbps, and TP-Link says H.265+ reduces the bandwidth and storage required while maintaining image quality.

The camera connects through a single 10/100 Mbps RJ45 port with 802.3af/at PoE (class 0, maximum 11.5 W), or a 12 V DC input (maximum 10.5 W). A built-in microSD card slot supports cards up to 512 GB (the card is not included), and the camera supports ONVIF Profile S/T/G, RTSP and three main plus three sub-streams of simultaneous live view, with management through the VIGI app, VIGI Security Manager, Web UI, VIGI VMS and VIGI Cloud VMS. The metal housing is rated IP67, operates from -30 to 60 °C, weighs 0.525 kg and measures 184 x 74 x 74 mm, with manual adjustment of 360° pan, 90° tilt and 360° rotation. In the box are the camera, a quick start guide, waterproof cable attachments and mounting accessories.
