The Cisco IE-3300-8U2X-A in depth

Modular high-power PoE with 10G uplinks

The Catalyst IE3300 Rugged Series is a compact, modular DIN-rail switch for industrial and extended enterprise sites. The IE-3300-8U2X-A starts with 8 Gigabit copper ports with 4PPoE and 2 1G/10G SFP+ uplinks, and one expansion module can add ports as the site grows. Its 4PPoE ports and 480W budget suit cameras, wireless access points and other high-draw devices in the field.

Hardened for the plant floor and the roadside

It is fanless with no moving parts, takes redundant DC inputs from 9.6 to 60VDC and carries industrial, substation, railway and hazardous location certifications. Ring protocols keep traffic flowing if a link fails, and SwapDrive makes replacing a failed unit a zero-configuration job.

Visibility and edge compute for OT

Cisco IOS XE brings secure boot and Full Flexible NetFlow, while IOx can host Docker applications, Cisco Cyber Vision for asset visibility, or Secure Equipment Access for remote access. This model ships with Network Advantage for dynamic routing such as OSPF and BGP.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the Cisco IE-3300-8U2X-A from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.

Cisco lists a PoE budget of up to 480W including an expansion module, with 4PPoE on the copper ports. 48VDC is required for PoE and 54VDC for PoE+ and 4PPoE.

PoE modules such as the IEM-3300-8P= (18 total ports), IEM-3300-16P= and the IEM-3300-4MU= with 802.3bt Type 4 PoE work with this PoE base switch.

The -A suffix means the switch ships with Network Advantage, a perpetual licence that includes everything in Network Essentials and adds OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, EIGRP, VRRP, HSRP, VRF-lite, MACsec-256 and PIM. Cisco Catalyst Center licences are optional add-ons.

It has redundant DC inputs rated 9.6 to 60VDC, a maximum input current of 10.5A and 42W consumption excluding PoE. Cisco lists the PWR-IE480W-PCAC-L= 480W DIN-rail supply for high PoE loads.

Cisco rates it for -40 to 75°C in a fan or blower-equipped enclosure, -40 to 70°C in a vented enclosure and -40 to 60°C in a sealed enclosure.
