Frequently Asked Questions

What is the IDS-7316HUHI-M4-S and how many channels does it support?

The Hikvision IDS-7316HUHI-M4-S is a 16-channel 5 MP 1.5U H.265 AcuSense DVR. It supports 16 analog camera inputs (HDTVI/AHD/CVI/CVBS) simultaneously with 18 IP channels, expandable to a total of 34 IP camera channels when analog inputs are replaced. This makes it suitable for both existing analog infrastructure and new IP camera deployments.

What is AcuSense technology and how does it work on this DVR?

AcuSense is Hikvision’s deep learning-based analytics engine. On the IDS-7316HUHI-M4-S, it enables Motion Detection 2.0 across all 16 analog channels to classify motion events as human or vehicle, dramatically reducing false alarms from leaves, animals, or lighting changes. Perimeter protection with human/vehicle analysis is active on up to 8 channels (channels 1/2/3/4/9/10/11/12), triggering alerts only for genuine intrusions.

How many HDDs can the IDS-7316HUHI-M4-S accommodate and what is the maximum storage capacity?

The IDS-7316HUHI-M4-S has 4 internal SATA interfaces plus 1 eSATA port for external expansion. Each drive supports up to 12 TB, giving a potential internal capacity of up to 48 TB across four drives. RAID modes 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10 are all supported for data redundancy and performance, making it well suited for high-availability surveillance deployments.

What display outputs does the DVR provide?

The DVR features two HDMI outputs and one VGA output. HDMI 2 supports up to 4K (3840 × 2160)@30 Hz for a large-format monitor or video wall. HDMI 1 and VGA output simultaneously at up to 1920 × 1080@60 Hz. A CVBS output is also included. HDMI 2 can operate independently from the HDMI 1/VGA pair, enabling a two-monitor control room setup.

What network protocols and remote access options are available?

The IDS-7316HUHI-M4-S ships with dual Gigabit Ethernet interfaces delivering 320 Mbps total bandwidth and supports up to 128 simultaneous remote connections. It is compatible with TCP/IP, PPPoE, DHCP, Hik-Connect, DNS, DDNS, NTP, SADP, NFS, iSCSI, UPnP™, HTTPS, ONVIF, and SNMP. Hik-Connect provides easy cloud-based remote viewing on mobile and desktop without requiring port-forwarding.

Is the IDS-7316HUHI-M4-S compatible with third-party IP cameras via ONVIF?

Yes. The IDS-7316HUHI-M4-S supports ONVIF-compliant IP cameras from third-party manufacturers on its IP channel inputs, accepting resolutions up to 12 MP. It also natively supports Hikvision H.265+, H.265, H.264+, and H.264 IP cameras. This open compatibility protects existing investments and allows staged migration from analog to full IP systems.

Professional Overview

The Hikvision IDS-7316HUHI-M4-S is a professional-grade 16-channel AcuSense hybrid DVR engineered for security integrators who require high-definition recording, intelligent analytics, and flexible camera compatibility in a single 1.5U rack chassis. By combining deep learning-based perimeter protection with support for both legacy analog coaxial cameras and modern IP cameras up to 12 MP, it delivers a cost-effective upgrade path that eliminates the need to replace existing cabling infrastructure. The iDS prefix designates the AcuSense product line, meaning every motion event is assessed by an onboard neural network before triggering an alarm or recording segment.

Recording performance centres on H.265 Pro+ compression, which substantially reduces bitrate and storage consumption compared to older H.264 codecs without any loss of forensic image quality. Full-channel recording at up to 8 MP resolution is maintained across all 16 analog channels simultaneously, with per-channel encoding options spanning 8 MP down to CIF for bandwidth-sensitive remote sites. Four internal SATA bays — each accepting drives up to 12 TB — plus an eSATA port provide up to 48 TB of internal capacity, while RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10 modes protect critical evidence footage against drive failure in mission-critical deployments.

Connectivity is comprehensive: dual Gigabit Ethernet interfaces aggregate to 320 Mbps and carry traffic from up to 128 concurrent remote sessions, while support for ONVIF, SADP, Hik-Connect, iSCSI, NFS, and SNMP integrates the recorder into existing network management and VMS platforms. The front panel includes two USB 2.0 ports for quick backup or mouse control, complemented by a rear USB 3.0 for high-speed archival. RS-232, RS-485 (full-duplex), and a keyboard interface enable PTZ camera control and POS integration — with transaction data overlaid directly onto the recorded video stream. Operating from 100 to 240 VAC and consuming no more than 35 W without drives, the IDS-7316HUHI-M4-S is energy-efficient for 24/7 continuous recording in retail, commercial, and government environments.

Designed for demanding security applications where precision matters, the Hikvision IDS-7316HUHI-M4-S pairs advanced AI analytics with robust hardware to deliver reliable, scalable video surveillance that grows with your site. Available from Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.
