The Netgear GS105E in depth

Beyond plug-and-play

The GS105E keeps the simplicity of an unmanaged switch but adds the essentials a growing network needs: VLANs to separate traffic, QoS to prioritise voice and video, and IGMP snooping to optimise multicast. It is aimed at small businesses that do not need a full managed switch.

Simple management tools

Configuration is done through a web browser GUI or the PC-based Plus utility, which also supports firmware upgrades over TFTP and configuration backup and restore. Port mirroring, a cable tester, loop detection and broadcast storm control help with troubleshooting.

Compact and quiet

The switch measures 94 x 100 x 27 mm, runs from an external 12V adapter and has an acoustic noise level of 0 dBA, so it suits desks and small spaces.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the Netgear GS105E from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.

Yes. It is a Netgear Plus (Easy Smart) switch managed through a web browser GUI or the PC utility, with 64 VLANs, QoS, IGMP snooping, rate limiting and port mirroring.

No. Netgear's datasheet lists link aggregation/port trunking as not supported on the GS105E.

Both are 100 Series Plus switches; the GS105E has 5 ports, 10 Gbps bandwidth and a 2K MAC table, while the GS108E has 8 ports, 16 Gbps and a 4K MAC table.

No. The GS105E has no PoE ports; Netgear's datasheet shows it in a non-PoE application with an external 12V power input.

Netgear specifies 0 to 50°C operating temperature and up to 90% relative humidity, non-condensing.
