Professional Overview

The MikroTik FTC21-ups is a weatherproof IP67 fiber-to-copper converter designed for the network edge, where fibre reliability meets unreliable power. It presents a single 2.5G-capable SFP fibre port alongside two 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet copper ports, with 802.3af/at PoE-out available on Ether2 to power a connected CCTV camera, access point or other edge device. The sealed enclosure and -40°C to 70°C tested operating range suit pole, wall and outdoor cabinet installations.

Unlike a passive media converter, the FTC21-ups is built around the Marvell 88E6341 switch chip and runs a full version of SwOS Lite. This delivers interface monitoring and management plus advanced Access Control Lists, enabling packet filtering, accounting and VLAN tagging based on Layer 2, 3 and 4 header conditions. Dual DC inputs (a 24-57 V DC jack and 802.3af/at PoE-in) give flexible powering, with a maximum draw of 28 W and just 3 W without attachments.

The defining feature is the integrated pair of Li-Ion NCA 18650 batteries. Rather than running the network overnight, they exist to survive brownouts, voltage drops and short outages — keeping the link up when power flickers so downstream devices avoid renegotiation and reboots, and cutting the support tickets those events generate. The battery is intelligently managed: activated on first power-up and remotely switchable to ship mode via SwOS. PoE-out delivers up to 15 W (0.625 A) of passive power at up to 57 V.

Cooling is fully passive and fanless, an on-board PCB temperature monitor tracks thermal conditions, and MTBF is rated at approximately 100,000 hours at 25°C. The unit carries CE, EAC and RoHS approvals and ships complete with the K-95 mounting kit, a 48 V 0.95 A power adapter, a Gigabit PoE injector and a hose clamp.
