The TP-Link ES220GP is an Omada 20-port Gigabit easy managed switch with 16-port PoE+. Sixteen 802.3af/at PoE+ ports share a 150 W budget with up to 30 W per port, alongside two Gigabit RJ45 ports and two Gigabit SFP slots. It has 40 Gbps switching, 250 m PoE in Extend Mode, remote camera reboot, VLAN, QoS and IGMP snooping, and a fanless metal case for desktop or rack mounting.

ES220GP overview

The ES220GP is TP-Link's Omada 20-port Gigabit easy managed switch with 16-port PoE+, shown on the AU page as hardware version V1. It has eighteen 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, sixteen of which are 802.3af/at-compliant PoE+, and two Gigabit SFP slots for fibre uplinks, all with auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX on the copper ports. TP-Link describes it as easy to use, supporting plug-and-play for instant connectivity and simple configuration for additional features.

The PoE budget is 150 W across the sixteen PoE+ ports, with up to 30 W per port. TP-Link notes that PoE budget calculations are based on laboratory testing, and the actual budget is not guaranteed and will vary due to client limitations and environmental factors. That makes the ES220GP a fit for sixteen fixed cameras or a mix of cameras and access points with moderate draw; if most ports will power higher-draw devices at once, the ES220GMP offers the same ports with a 250 W budget. In return the ES220GP is fanless, so it runs silently, and its 294 x 180 x 44 mm case is narrower than the 440 mm ES220GMP and can sit on a desk or mount in a rack.

Fast PoE and Perpetual PoE are supported, along with PoE Auto Recovery, and TP-Link lists remote camera reboot with an Omada controller for reliable surveillance networking. PoE transmission reaches up to 250 m (820 ft): when Extend Mode is enabled, ports that support 250 m PoE are downgraded to 10 Mbps, and actual distance depends on cable quality. Switching capacity is 40 Gbps with a 29.76 Mpps forwarding rate, an 8K MAC table, a 4 Mbit buffer, 15 KB jumbo frames and store-and-forward transmission.

Software features include port-based, 802.1p and DSCP QoS with 8 priority queues and WRR scheduling, queue weight configuration, bandwidth control with port-based rate limiting, and storm control for broadcast, multicast and unknown-unicast traffic. For layer 2 it has MTU VLAN, port-based VLAN and 802.1Q tag VLAN with up to 32 VLAN groups and 4K VIDs, port isolation, static link aggregation, loop prevention and loopback detection, 802.3x flow control, port mirroring (one-to-one or many-to-one), port and traffic statistics, 802.1ab LLDP and IGMP v1/v2/v3 snooping with fast leave.

Management is through a web-based GUI with DHCP client and cable diagnostics, or centrally via an Omada cloud-based, hardware or software controller for cloud management via the web or the Omada app, automatic device discovery, batch configuration, batch firmware upgrading and unified configuration. Zero-touch provisioning requires Omada Central (Standard or Essentials), and TP-Link describes Omada Central Essentials as a free, easy-to-use version for small businesses and surveillance networks. The switch has an internal 100-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz 2.5 A power supply, a physical security lock slot and ±6 kV surge protection, operates from -5 to 40 °C and is FCC and CE certified. In the box are the ES220GP, power cord, mounting brackets, rubber feet, screws and installation guide.
