The TP-Link ES208GP is an Omada 8-port Gigabit easy managed switch with 8-port PoE+. All eight 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports are 802.3af/at PoE+, sharing a 64 W budget with up to 30 W per port, and it adds 250 m PoE transmission, PoE Auto Recovery, QoS, VLAN, port isolation and IGMP snooping in a fanless metal case, with centralised cloud management through an Omada controller.

ES208GP overview

The ES208GP is TP-Link's Omada 8-port Gigabit easy managed switch with 8-port PoE+, and the AU product page shows hardware version V2. Every one of its eight 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports is 802.3af/at-compliant PoE+, so each port can deliver both data and power to an IP camera, access point or VoIP phone over a single cable, without the hassle and cost of installing separate power cabling. The switch automatically detects and supplies the required power to PoE-enabled devices. That is the key difference from the ES208G, which has the same eight-port layout and case but no PoE at all.

The PoE budget is 64 W shared across all PoE+ ports, with up to 30 W on any single port. TP-Link notes that PoE budget calculations are based on laboratory testing, and the actual PoE power budget is not guaranteed and will vary due to client limitations and environmental factors. When planning a deployment, add up the maximum draw of each powered device: 64 W covers a mix of lower-power cameras and access points rather than eight devices at a full 30 W. Fast PoE and Perpetual PoE are supported, so power can be delivered quickly at start-up and maintained through a switch reboot. PoE Auto Recovery is supported in Standalone Mode, and IntelliRecover is supported in Controller Mode, to bring a hung camera or access point back automatically.

For cameras mounted far from the comms cabinet, the ES208GP supports PoE transmission of up to 250 m (820 ft). TP-Link explains that ports using 250 m PoE transmission are downgraded to 10 Mbps, which it describes as adequate for sub-4K camera video, and that actual distance depends on cable quality. Switching capacity is 16 Gbps with an 11.904 Mpps forwarding rate, an 8K MAC table, a 4 Mbit buffer, 15 KB jumbo frames and store-and-forward transmission, and IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet is listed.

TP-Link highlights 250 m PoE, QoS, PoE Auto Recovery and port isolation for reliable surveillance networking. Port-based, 802.1p and DSCP QoS with 8 priority queues and WRR scheduling are supported in Standalone Mode, while QoS rules are supported in Controller Mode. Other features are 802.1Q tag VLAN with up to 32 VLAN groups and 4K VIDs, static link aggregation (up to two groups of up to four ports), loopback detection, 802.3x flow control, port mirroring, port and traffic statistics, storm control, bandwidth control, 802.1ab LLDP and IGMP v1/v2/v3 snooping with fast leave. ONVIF is supported only in Controller Mode.

Management starts with a web-based GUI, DHCP client and cable diagnostics. For centralised cloud management via the web or the Omada app, it works with an Omada cloud-based controller, Omada hardware controller or Omada software controller, each requiring built-in version 6.1.0 or later, which also enables automatic device discovery, batch configuration, batch firmware upgrading and unified configuration. Zero-touch provisioning requires the Omada Cloud-Based Controller. The case is fanless metal for desktop or wall mounting, measures 158 x 101 x 25 mm (6.2 x 4.0 x 1.0 in) and has a physical security lock slot and ±6 kV surge protection. It runs from an AC/DC adapter (100-240 V AC in, 53.5 V DC / 1.31 A out), operates from -5 to 40 °C and is FCC and CE certified. In the box are the ES208GP, power adapter, power cord, mounting feet and installation guide.

Last reviewed October 2026.

All eight of its Gigabit RJ45 ports are 802.3af/at PoE+ ports.

64 W across all PoE+ ports, with up to 30 W per port. TP-Link notes the budget is based on laboratory testing and the actual budget will vary.

Not at the same time. Eight devices at 30 W would need 240 W, well above the 64 W total budget, so plan around the actual draw of each device.

Up to 250 m (820 ft). Ports running 250 m PoE are downgraded to 10 Mbps, and the actual distance depends on cable quality.

The ES208GP has PoE+ on all eight ports with a 64 W budget; the ES208G has the same eight Gigabit ports with no PoE.

No, it works standalone with a web GUI. Cloud management, the Omada app and batch tasks need an Omada cloud-based, hardware or software controller with built-in version 6.1.0 or later.

Yes, ONVIF is supported only in Controller Mode.

Yes. It is fanless for silent operation, in a metal case for desktop or wall mounting.
