The TP-Link ES206GP is an Omada 6-port Gigabit easy managed switch with four 802.3af/at PoE+ ports and two non-PoE Gigabit ports (V2 on the AU page). It has a 65 W PoE budget with up to 30 W per port, 12 Gbps switching capacity, PoE Auto Recovery, a 250 m PoE mode, VLAN, port isolation, QoS and IGMP snooping, in a fanless metal case with Omada cloud management.

ES206GP overview

The ES206GP is TP-Link's Omada 6-port Gigabit easy managed switch with 4-port PoE+, shown on the AU product page as hardware version V2. Its six 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports are split into four 802.3af/at PoE+ ports and two non-PoE Gigabit ports. That extra Gigabit port, compared with a five-port PoE switch, means you can run the uplink to your router or core switch and still have a spare wired port for an NVR, a PC or a cascade to another switch, while four cameras or access points draw power from the PoE ports.

The PoE budget is 65 W for all PoE+ ports, with up to 30 W per port. TP-Link notes that PoE budget calculations are based on laboratory testing and the actual budget is not guaranteed and will vary with client limitations and environmental factors. The switch automatically detects and supplies the required power to PoE-enabled devices, and supports Fast PoE and Perpetual PoE, PoE Auto Recovery in Standalone Mode and IntelliRecover in Controller Mode. Long-range PoE transmission reaches up to 250 m, with the speed of those ports downgraded to 10 Mbps; actual distance depends on cable quality. TP-Link describes long-range PoE, QoS, PoE Auto Recovery and port isolation together as being for reliable surveillance networking.

With six Gigabit ports the switching capacity is 12 Gbps and the packet forwarding rate is 8.93 Mpps, with a 4 Mbit packet buffer, 8K MAC address table and 15 KB jumbo frames, using store-and-forward transmission. Layer 2 features include 802.1Q tag VLAN with up to 32 groups and 4K VIDs, static link aggregation with up to two groups of up to four ports, loopback detection for automatic loop prevention, 802.3x flow control, port mirroring, port and traffic statistics, 802.1ab LLDP and IGMP v1/v2/v3 snooping with fast leave. QoS supports port-based, 802.1p and DSCP priority with eight queues, WRR, bandwidth control, rate limiting and storm control in Standalone Mode, and QoS rules in Controller Mode.

Out of the box it is plug-and-play, with a web-based GUI, DHCP client and cable diagnostics for standalone configuration. Adopted by an Omada hardware, software or cloud-based controller with built-in version 6.1.0 or later, it gains centralised cloud management via the web or the Omada app, automatic device discovery, batch configuration, batch firmware upgrading and unified configuration. Zero-touch provisioning requires the Omada Cloud-Based Controller, and ONVIF is supported only in Controller Mode. TP-Link says it works with Omada Central Essentials for free cloud management, ideal for surveillance networks and small businesses.

The fanless metal casing measures 158 x 101 x 25 mm, slightly wider than the five-port models to fit the extra port, and has a physical security lock slot for desktop or wall installation. It runs from an AC/DC adapter with 53.5 V DC / 1.31 A output, and the box includes the switch, power adapter, power cord, mounting feet and installation guide. Surge protection is ±6 kV, the operating range is -5 to 40 °C and it is FCC and CE certified.
