The TP-Link EAP727 is an Omada BE5000 ceiling mount Wi-Fi 7 access point that TP-Link describes as ideal for offices, retail, MDUs and hotels. It delivers data rates of up to 4324 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz with five spatial streams, has a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port powered by 802.3at PoE+ or 12 V DC, and is managed through Omada SDN.

EAP727 overview

The EAP727 is TP-Link's Omada BE5000 ceiling mount Wi-Fi 7 access point, which TP-Link says delivers a fast, reliable and secure network experience and is ideal for offices, retail, MDUs and hotels. It is a five-stream dual-band design: 2x2 MIMO on 2.4 GHz (IEEE 802.11b/g/n/ax/be) and 3x3 MIMO on 5 GHz (IEEE 802.11a/n/ac/ax/be). Wi-Fi 7 data rates reach 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz (EHT20/40) and 4324 Mbps on 5 GHz (EHT20/40/80/160), 5012 Mbps combined. The datasheet lists 160 MHz bandwidth on 5 GHz, 4096-QAM modulation, uplink/downlink OFDMA, Multi-Link Operation across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, BSS Colouring and transmit beamforming. TP-Link says Multi-Link Operation, Multi-RUs and 4K-QAM enhance throughput, connection stability and concurrent capacity, and notes that Wi-Fi 7 and its features, including MLO, 160 MHz bandwidth, 4K-QAM, Multi-RUs and OFDMA, require clients that also support them.

Wired performance keeps pace through a single 10M/100M/1000M/2.5 Gbps multigigabit Ethernet port. TP-Link says the 2.5 Gigabit port delivers higher bandwidth and faster networking, and its 802.3at PoE+ compatibility suits flexible deployment. The EAP727 can alternatively run from a 12 V / 1.5 A DC supply through a 2.1 mm / 5.5 mm centre-positive barrel socket, but note that the DC power adapter is not included. Internal onboard antennas are rated 2 x 4 dBi on 2.4 GHz and 3 x 6 dBi on 5 GHz, and there is also Bluetooth (BLE 5.2) with a 4 dBi internal antenna. The 160 x 160 x 36.7 mm unit weighs 0.47 kg, has ±4 kV surge protection on the Ethernet port, and mounts on a ceiling, wall, junction box or T-bar, with kits included.

For busy spaces, the datasheet lists up to 512 associated clients and up to 16 SSIDs, eight on each band, with SSID, dynamic and management VLANs. Wireless functions include automatic channel selection, band steering, load balancing, airtime fairness, RF scan, SSID and client rate limits, multicast-to-unicast conversion and WMM/DSCP QoS. Roaming support covers 802.11k, 802.11v, 802.11r and AI Roaming (layer 2), and mesh is listed as an operating mode; TP-Link notes mesh, captive portal and PPSK require an Omada controller. TP-Link highlights a secure guest network with up to 16 SSIDs, SMS login, WPA3-Enterprise encryption and rogue AP detection. Security options include WPA/WPA2/WPA3-Personal and Enterprise, Enhanced Open, PPSK with or without RADIUS, 802.1X, MAC filtering, client isolation and URL filtering, and captive portal choices include voucher, local user, SMS, RADIUS and form authentication.

Management runs through Omada SDN. TP-Link says Omada SDN supports quick setup of the EAP727 through automatic device identification and one-click adoption, with configuration on the go through the Omada app or a web browser. Central management options are Omada Central (cloud-based) and Omada hardware and software controllers, with Omada Controller and Omada Essential V6.1.x and above and Omada App V5.0 and above listed; cloud access requires an Omada controller. As part of the Omada ecosystem it works with Omada switches, gateways and controllers for end-to-end visibility, zero-touch provisioning and batch configuration. SNMP v1/v2c/v3, SSH, syslog, email alerts, LLDP, mDNS and packet capture tools are also listed. It operates at 0 to 40 degrees C. In the box are the EAP727, an installation guide and a mounting kit. ARC IP Networks supplies the EAP727 from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
