The TP-Link EAP673 is an Omada AX5400 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 ceiling mount access point: up to 4804 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, a 2.5 Gigabit RJ45 port, 802.3at PoE or 12 V DC power, 5 GHz 4x4 DL/UL MU-MIMO with UL/DL OFDMA, and a rating of 250+ wireless clients. It is managed through Omada SDN with the Omada app and Omada hardware, software or cloud-based controllers.

EAP673 overview

The EAP673 is TP-Link's Omada AX5400 ceiling mount dual-band Wi-Fi 6 access point. The 5 GHz radio is rated up to 4804 Mbps and the 2.4 GHz radio up to 574 Mbps, using IEEE 802.11ax/ac/n/g/b/a. TP-Link notes that maximum wireless transmission rates are the physical rates derived from the IEEE 802.11 specifications. Wi-Fi 6 functions listed include 1024-QAM, the 4x longer OFDM symbol, UL/DL OFDMA and 5 GHz 4x4 DL/UL MU-MIMO, along with beamforming, airtime fairness, band steering and load balancing. TP-Link rates the EAP673 for 250+ wireless clients and about 140 m² (1500 ft²) of coverage; TP-Link defines both figures from test results under normal usage conditions, and states that actual coverage and client capacity are not guaranteed and vary with environmental factors, network conditions and client limitations.

The wired connection is a single 2.5 Gigabit RJ45 port. Power comes from 802.3at PoE through that port, or from a 12 V / 2 A DC supply; note that the power adapter is not included, so plan on an 802.3at PoE source or a separately sourced adapter. Maximum power consumption is 20.8 W (EU) or 22.3 W (US) on PoE, and 18.5 W (EU) or 19.6 W (US) on DC. The EAP673 has internal omnidirectional antennas, with 2 x 4 dBi on 2.4 GHz, and Bluetooth 5.2.

Physically it is a 220 x 220 x 32.5 mm ceiling unit with a PC top cover, an aluminium alloy bottom shell and a stainless steel mounting rack, and ceiling and wall mounting kits are included. Protection is listed as ±8 kV air discharge, ±4 kV contact discharge and ±4 kV common mode (10/700). The operating range is 0 to 40 °C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, and certifications include CE, FCC, RoHS and IC. Security covers WPA, WPA2 and WPA3 Personal and Enterprise, 802.1X, up to 4000 MAC filter entries, wireless isolation between clients, SSID-to-VLAN mapping, rogue AP detection and captive portal authentication, with up to 16 SSIDs (eight per band) and a guest network.

As part of Omada SDN, which integrates access points, managed switches and gateways for 100% centralised cloud management, the EAP673 can be managed from the Omada Cloud-Based Controller, an Omada hardware controller, the Omada software controller or the Omada app. Cloud access requires an Omada controller, and TP-Link's datasheet says zero-touch provisioning is supported when using the Omada Cloud-Based Controller. TP-Link's Omada datasheet names hospitality, education, retail and offices as uses for the platform. Other functions include seamless roaming (which TP-Link says requires both the access point and client devices to support 802.11k and 802.11v), Omada Mesh, automatic channel assignment, transmit power control, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, SSH and email alerts. ARC IP Networks supplies the EAP673 from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
