The TP-Link EAP653 UR is an Omada AX3000 dual-band ceiling mount Wi-Fi 6 access point built for wide coverage in large business spaces. Its high-power internal omnidirectional antennas (2 x 5 dBi on 2.4 GHz, 3 x 5 dBi on 5 GHz) deliver up to 185 square metres of coverage and 250+ concurrent connections, and the 2x2 radios reach 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz with 160 MHz channels and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, using 1024-QAM, OFDMA and MU-MIMO. One Gigabit Ethernet port accepts 802.3at PoE or 48 V passive PoE, with a 12 V DC input as an alternative (adapter not included). Up to 16 SSIDs, captive portal, mesh and 802.11k/v/r roaming are supported, with centralised management through Omada Central, hardware or software controllers.

The TP-Link EAP653 UR is the ultra-range version of the Omada AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 ceiling mount access point. High-power internal antennas give TP-Link-rated coverage of up to 185 square metres (2,000 sq ft) and 250+ concurrent clients, with up to 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz using 160 MHz channels and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. It has one Gigabit PoE+ port (802.3at or 48 V passive PoE) plus a 12 V DC input, Bluetooth 5.2 and Omada SDN management.

EAP653 UR overview

The EAP653 UR is TP-Link's Omada AX3000 dual-band ceiling mount access point in its UR (ultra-range) form. TP-Link says it delivers blazing-fast speeds and extended coverage, using Wi-Fi 6 efficiencies to support more devices over larger areas with stable performance. Its datasheet headline is four-stream dual-band Wi-Fi 6: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, with 2x2 MU-MIMO in both directions on each band. TP-Link notes that maximum signal rates are physical rates from the IEEE 802.11 specifications and that actual throughput, coverage and connected devices are not guaranteed.

What makes the UR version different is its antenna system. TP-Link equips the EAP653 UR with high-power dual-band internal omnidirectional antennas, rated at 2 x 5 dBi on 2.4 GHz and 3 x 5 dBi on 5 GHz, and describes the result as exceptional signal strength and extended coverage that penetrates walls and minimises dead zones in expansive business environments. Coverage is listed as up to 185 square metres (2,000 sq ft), calculated from laboratory testing, and the access point supports 250+ concurrent clients. FCC transmit power reaches 4 to 26 dBm on 2.4 GHz and 4 to 27 dBm on 5 GHz; CE EIRP is 7 to 20 dBm on 2.4 GHz and up to 29 dBm in U-NII-2C, depending on local regulations.

Wi-Fi 6 features include HE160 160 MHz channels, OFDMA, MU-MIMO, 1024-QAM, the 4x longer OFDM symbol and beamforming. TP-Link explains that 160 MHz bandwidth delivers faster speeds and lower latency for smoother streaming and multitasking, OFDMA lets multiple devices share channels efficiently in dense environments, and 1024-QAM raises data rates by 25% compared with Wi-Fi 5. Up to 16 SSIDs (eight per band), band steering, load balance, airtime fairness, rate limits, lock to AP, URL filtering, WMM QoS and wireless schedules are listed. Security covers captive portal authentication, access control, MAC filtering, client isolation, SSID-to-VLAN mapping, rogue AP detection and WPA, WPA2 and WPA3 Personal/Enterprise.

The single 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 port is a Gigabit PoE+ port that accepts 802.3at PoE or 48 V passive PoE, and a separate 12 V DC / 1.5 A input is available; the DC adapter is not included. The AU product page lists maximum power consumption of 14.2 W (EU) or 15.5 W (US); the datasheet lists 14.8 W (EU) or 16.4 W (US), so allow for the higher figure when planning a PoE budget. The housing measures 160 x 160 x 33.6 mm and the main unit weighs 0.41 kg, with kits included for ceiling, wall, junction box and T-bar mounting. A Bluetooth 5.2 (BLE) radio is built in. It operates from 0 to 40 °C and is certified to CE, FCC and ISED.

Management options include HTTP/HTTPS web management, the Omada app, SSH, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, syslog, L3 and multi-site management, a management VLAN, management MAC access control and LED on/off control. Centralised control is through Omada Central (cloud-based), Omada hardware controllers or the Omada software controller; cloud access and zero-touch provisioning require an Omada controller, as do captive portal, Omada mesh and 802.11k/v/r seamless roaming. In the box are the EAP653 UR, a mounting kit and an installation guide.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the EAP653 UR from the ARC IP Networks team.

Last reviewed October 2026.

UR stands for ultra-range. The EAP653 UR uses high-power internal antennas for extended coverage, which TP-Link lists as up to 185 square metres (2,000 sq ft).

Both are AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 ceiling APs with one Gigabit port. The UR has higher-gain antennas (2 x 5 dBi on 2.4 GHz and 3 x 5 dBi on 5 GHz, versus 2 x 4 dBi and 2 x 5 dBi), slightly higher power draw, and published coverage of 185 m² and 250+ clients.

Up to 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz using 160 MHz channels and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. These are maximum physical rates; actual throughput varies.

By 802.3at PoE or 48 V passive PoE on its Gigabit port, or by a 12 V / 1.5 A DC adapter, which is not included.

The AU product page lists 14.2 W (EU) or 15.5 W (US) maximum; the datasheet lists 14.8 W (EU) or 16.4 W (US). An 802.3at PoE+ port covers either figure.

TP-Link lists 250+ concurrent clients. Actual capacity depends on the wireless environment and client traffic.

Yes. Omada mesh and 802.11k/v/r seamless roaming are supported with an Omada controller.

Yes, a Bluetooth 5.2 (BLE) radio is built in.

On a ceiling, wall, junction box or T-bar; the mounting kit is included. The unit is 160 x 160 x 33.6 mm and weighs 0.41 kg.
