The TP-Link EAP653 is an Omada AX3000 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 ceiling mount access point with up to 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz using 160 MHz channels and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. It has one Gigabit Ethernet port, takes 802.3at PoE, 48 V passive PoE or 12 V DC (adapter not included), includes Bluetooth 5.2, supports up to 16 SSIDs, and is managed through Omada SDN with mesh and seamless roaming.

EAP653 overview

The EAP653 is TP-Link's Omada AX3000 ceiling mount Wi-Fi 6 access point. TP-Link presents it as a way to power up a business with new-era Wi-Fi 6, with lightning-fast AX3000 speeds, a secure guest network with up to 16 SSIDs and reliable Omada SDN management. It supports IEEE 802.11ax/ac/n/g/b/a on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, with signal rates of up to 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. TP-Link notes that maximum wireless signal rates are physical rates from the IEEE 802.11 specifications, and that actual throughput, coverage and number of connected devices will vary.

The 5 GHz radio supports HE160, so a 160 MHz channel is available where the local regulations and the environment allow it, which is how the EAP653 reaches its 2402 Mbps rate. Wi-Fi 6 features listed on the AU page include 1024-QAM, the 4x longer OFDM symbol, OFDMA, MU-MIMO and beamforming. Internal dual-band antennas are rated at 2 x 4 dBi on 2.4 GHz and 2 x 5 dBi on 5 GHz. Transmit power is adjustable in dBm, with CE EIRP limits of 7 to 20 dBm on 2.4 GHz and 7 to 23 dBm (U-NII-1/2A) or 7 to 30 dBm (U-NII-2C) on 5 GHz. A Bluetooth 5.2 radio is also built in.

Installation is flexible. The EAP653 has a single Gigabit Ethernet port and three power options: 802.3at PoE from a PoE+ switch or injector, 48 V passive PoE, or a 12 V DC adapter (12 V / 1.0 A for the EU version, 12 V / 1.5 A for the US version). The DC power adapter is not included in the box, so most installs will power it from a PoE+ switch. Maximum power consumption is 13.5 W (EU) or 14.7 W (US). The unit measures 160 x 160 x 33.6 mm, and mounting kits for ceiling, wall, junction box and T-bar installation are included. It is rated for 0 to 40 °C operation and carries CE and FCC certification.

Wireless functions include up to 16 SSIDs (eight per band), band steering, load balance, airtime fairness, rate limits, WMM QoS, automatic channel assignment, reboot and wireless schedules, and statistics by SSID, AP or client. Security covers captive portal authentication, access control, wireless MAC filtering, client isolation, SSID-to-VLAN mapping, rogue AP detection and WPA, WPA2 and WPA3 Personal/Enterprise. Captive portal, Omada mesh and seamless roaming are features that work with an Omada controller.

For management, the EAP653 offers HTTP/HTTPS web management, SSH, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, local and remote syslog, L3 management, multi-site management, a management VLAN, management MAC access control and LED on/off control. Centralised management is through Omada cloud-based, hardware or software controllers and the Omada app; cloud access and zero-touch provisioning require an Omada controller. Compared with the EAP653 UR, the standard EAP653 uses lower-gain 4 dBi 2.4 GHz antennas and slightly lower power draw, while the UR (ultra-range) version is tuned for wider coverage. In the box are the EAP653, mounting kits and an installation guide.

Last reviewed October 2026.

It is an AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 access point with up to 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. These are maximum physical rates; actual throughput varies.

Yes. HE160 (160 MHz bandwidth) is supported on 5 GHz, subject to local regulations and channel availability.

By 802.3at PoE, 48 V passive PoE or a 12 V DC adapter. The DC power adapter is not included. Maximum consumption is 13.5 W (EU) or 14.7 W (US).

TP-Link lists 802.3at PoE, 48 V passive PoE and 12 V DC as the power options; 802.3af is not listed, so use a PoE+ (802.3at) port.

Both are AX3000 ceiling APs with one Gigabit port and the same 160 x 160 x 33.6 mm size. The EAP653 UR is the ultra-range version with higher-gain antennas (5 dBi on 2.4 GHz) and TP-Link lists 185 square metres of coverage for it; the standard EAP653 uses 4 dBi antennas on 2.4 GHz.

Up to 16, with eight on each band.

It can be managed on its own through HTTP/HTTPS web management. Centralised and cloud management, captive portal, mesh, seamless roaming and zero-touch provisioning use an Omada controller.

Ceiling, wall, junction box or T-bar mounting; the kits are included.
