HiLook Turbo HD DVR FAQ – DVR-204U-M1

It is a 4-channel Turbo HD DVR from Hikvision’s HiLook range. It records HDTVI, AHD, CVI and CVBS analog cameras on 4 BNC inputs, can add IP cameras, and offers Motion Detection 2.0 human/vehicle classification, H.265 Pro+ compression and one SATA bay.

It has 4 analog inputs. It also supports 2 IP channels as standard, up to 6 when analog inputs are switched to IP, or with enhanced IP mode on, 4 IP channels as standard and up to 8, each up to 4 Mbps. It has no PoE ports, so IP cameras need a PoE switch or injector.

All channels record up to 5 MP or 3K at 12 fps, 4 MP at 15 fps and 1080p at 25/30 fps. 8 MP at 8 fps is available on channel 1 only, according to Hikvision’s datasheet.

It is deep-learning motion detection that classifies humans and vehicles and is enabled by default on all analog channels. It greatly reduces false alarms from leaves and lights and lets you search recordings by target type.

It has one SATA interface for a single drive up to 10 TB. The hard drive is sold separately.

It uses a 12 VDC, 1.5 A supply and draws up to 15 W without a hard drive. Cameras need their own power because this DVR does not supply power over coax or PoE.

Yes. The DVR supports the HiLookVision app and DDNS for remote live view and playback, with up to 32 remote connections over its 10/100 network port. Wi-Fi is possible with a USB Wi-Fi dongle.

Professional overview

The HiLook DVR-204U-M1 is a 4-channel, single-drive Turbo HD digital video recorder from HiLook, Hikvision’s value brand. It suits homes, small shops and offices with a small coax camera system, and lets installers move to higher resolution analog HD cameras without replacing cable.

Its 4 BNC inputs adapt to HDTVI, AHD, HDCVI and CVBS cameras, and it can add 2 IP channels as standard, up to 8 in enhanced IP mode. Recording runs up to 5 MP at 12 fps on all channels (8 MP at 8 fps on channel 1) with H.265 Pro+ compression to save storage, and live video goes to HDMI and VGA at up to 1080p.

Motion Detection 2.0 is the key upgrade over basic DVRs: deep-learning classification of people and vehicles runs by default on every analog channel, so fewer false alerts are triggered by moving trees, insects or headlights, and quick search finds people or vehicle events in seconds. Audio over coax is supported on all 4 channels with compatible cameras.

The recorder takes one SATA drive up to 10 TB (sold separately), has two USB 2.0 ports and a 10/100 network port, and runs from 12 VDC at up to 15 W without a drive. It has no PoE ports, so plan separate camera power. It comes with the full manufacturer’s warranty. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.
