Frequently asked questions

Which Hikvision cameras does the DS-1280ZJ-DM8 fit?

It is designed for Hikvision dome and turret network cameras with a matching base diameter, including the DS-2CD23xx3Gx-x and DS-2CD2345GxP-x series. Always check the base diameter of your camera against the Ø 126.7 mm mounting face before ordering.

Do I need a junction box if I am mounting the camera directly to a wall?

Not always, but it is strongly recommended for outdoor and commercial installations. The junction box gives you room to house the connector and surplus cable, keeps the termination out of the weather, and lets you remove the camera for service without disturbing the cabling.

Is the DS-1280ZJ-DM8 weatherproof?

The junction box is an aluminium alloy enclosure intended for use with outdoor-rated Hikvision cameras. The weather rating of the finished installation depends on the camera, the gasket seal and the cable gland used, so follow Hikvision's installation instructions for the camera model you are fitting.

What is the difference between the DS-1280ZJ-DM8 and the DS-1280ZJ-DM21?

The DM8 is the smaller of the two at Ø 126.7 mm × 35 mm and approximately 210 g. The DM21 is Ø 137 mm × 42 mm, 280 g, and adds a side outlet with an interchangeable waterproof cover and gland nut plus a 4.5 kg maximum load rating. Choose the one that matches your camera's base diameter.

Does it come with fixings?

The junction box ships with the mounting hardware required to attach the camera to the box. Wall or ceiling fixings appropriate to the substrate — masonry plugs, timber screws or similar — are not included and should be selected for the surface you are fixing to.

Overview

Junction boxes are the part of a CCTV installation nobody photographs and everybody notices when they are missing. Terminate a camera tail directly against a brick wall and you are left with a connector sitting in the weather, surplus cable coiled behind the camera base, and no way to drop the camera for service without disturbing the cable. The DS-1280ZJ-DM8 exists to solve that: a die-cast aluminium enclosure that sits between the camera and the mounting surface and gives the termination somewhere proper to live.

At Ø 126.7 mm and 35 mm deep it matches the base diameter of Hikvision's dome and turret cameras, so the finished assembly reads as one object rather than a camera perched on an adaptor. The Hikvision White finish is the same colour as the standard camera housing. On a commercial job where twenty cameras are visible from the car park, that consistency is the difference between an installation that looks specified and one that looks assembled.

Aluminium alloy was chosen over plastic for two reasons. It survives UV and thermal cycling outdoors over the life of the camera, and it conducts heat away from the connector — which matters in an enclosed box in direct Australian sun. At approximately 210 g it adds negligible load, so the fixing specification is driven by the camera and the substrate rather than by the box.

ARC IP Networks supplies the DS-1280ZJ-DM8 as genuine Australian stock with full Hikvision manufacturer warranty and local RMA support. If you are unsure whether this is the correct box for your camera's base diameter, send us the camera model and we will confirm it against Hikvision's bracket cross-reference before you order.

Buying from ARC IP Networks

ARC IP Networks is an authorised Hikvision reseller based in Blackburn, Melbourne. Everything we ship is genuine Australian stock carrying the full Hikvision manufacturer warranty, with RMA handled locally rather than sent offshore. Parallel-imported hardware is cheaper for a reason: it is not covered here, and a warranty claim on it becomes your problem rather than the distributor’s.

Accessories like this one are usually ordered alongside cameras rather than on their own, and that is the sensible way to buy them. Working out bracket and junction box requirements at the same time as the camera schedule avoids the most common delay on a CCTV job — cameras arriving on site with nothing to mount them on. Send us the camera models and quantities and we will build the accessory list against them.

We hold trade accounts for installers, integrators and electrical contractors, and we price match. If you have a written quote from another Australian supplier, send it through and we will do our best on it. For project volumes it is worth talking to us directly rather than ordering line by line through the site.

Beyond supply, we design and deploy the networks these systems run on — structured cabling, PoE switching, network design and GPON fibre infrastructure through our sister company ARC DATA. If a job needs more than boxes, we can take on as much or as little of it as suits you.
