The TP-Link DR3650v-4G is an Omada desktop DSL gateway that combines a VDSL2/ADSL2+ port (VDSL2 35b up to 350 Mbps), a 4G+ Cat6 modem with dual nano SIM slots (up to 300 Mbps down), AX3000 dual-band Wi-Fi 6, one Gigabit WAN/LAN and four Gigabit LAN ports, two FXS phone ports for VoIP and a USB 3.0 port. It load-balances DSL, 4G and Ethernet WAN, runs IPsec, SSL, OpenVPN, WireGuard, L2TP, PPTP and GRE VPNs, and is managed through Omada SDN.

DR3650v-4G overview

The DR3650v-4G is TP-Link's Omada 4G+ Cat6 AX3000 Gigabit desktop DSL gateway. It brings together the four things a small site usually needs from separate boxes: a DSL modem, a 4G backup link, a business VPN router and dual-band Wi-Fi 6, plus two analogue phone ports. TP-Link's own pitch is getting higher DSL speeds cost-effectively: the integrated DSL port supports VDSL2/ADSL2+/ADSL2/ADSL connections, with VDSL2 profiles 8a to 35b and a listed DSL speed of up to 350 Mbps on 35b. The datasheet lists VDSL2 to ITU G.993.2, ADSL2+ to ITU-T G.992.5, ADSL2 to G.992.3 and ADSL to G.992.1 and G.992.2.

Mobile broadband comes from a built-in 4G+ Cat6 modem with dual nano SIM slots, rated at up to 300 Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink, with two detachable 4 dBi omnidirectional LTE antennas. The USB 3.0 port also accepts a USB LTE dongle or USB storage. TP-Link highlights load balancing across DSL, 4G and Ethernet WAN for optimised connectivity, and the gateway supports intelligent load balance, application optimised routing, link backup by timing or failover, and online detection. WAN connection types are static IP, dynamic IP, PPPoE with MRU configuration, PPTP and L2TP, with IPv6 and IGMP v2/v3 proxy for IPTV. Note that the LTE band list in TP-Link's datasheet is for the EU version.

Wi-Fi is AX3000 Wi-Fi 6: up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz with 160 MHz (HE160) channels, through three detachable dual-band antennas (5 dBi on 5 GHz, 3.5 dBi on 2.4 GHz). It supports OFDMA, MU-MIMO, beamforming, airtime fairness, load balance, seamless roaming, up to 16 SSIDs (eight per radio), a guest network, WPA3 Personal and Enterprise, and mesh with EAPs that support mesh. Wired ports are one Gigabit WAN/LAN port and four Gigabit LAN ports. Two FXS ports and RTP/RTCP and SIP support with up to 12 SIP registrars let you connect analogue phones for VoIP, with call waiting, call forwarding, call hold, DND and call blocking, voicemail and G.711, G.726, G.729 A/B and G.722 codecs.

VPN coverage is broad. TP-Link lists up to 100 IPsec tunnels (LAN-to-LAN and client-to-LAN, IKE v1/v2, AES up to 256-bit), 50 SSL VPN tunnels, 55 OpenVPN tunnels, 50 L2TP and 50 PPTP tunnels, WireGuard, and GRE in Standalone Mode. Lab throughput figures include 569.9 Mbps IPsec (ESP-SHA1-AES256), 311.6 Mbps WireGuard, 126.7 Mbps SSL VPN and 129.3 Mbps OpenVPN, with NAT throughput of around 940 Mbps and 150,000 concurrent sessions; TP-Link notes these are based on test results with a specific software version and may vary. Security features include stateful ACL, source/destination IP access control, URL and web group filtering, TCP/UDP/ICMP flood defence and IP-MAC binding, and the hotspot portal supports local users, vouchers, SMS and RADIUS.

For management, the DR3650v-4G is centrally managed through the Omada cloud-based controller, an Omada hardware controller or the Omada software controller, with the Omada app; cloud access and zero-touch provisioning require the use of an Omada controller. Standalone, it offers a web interface, remote management, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, TR-069, syslog and CLI (Standalone Mode only). It has 256 MB NAND flash and 512 MB DDR4, a 12 V / 3.3 A power adapter (maximum 31.42 W at full load with USB), 6 kV surge protection on the DSL port and 4 kV on other ports, and measures 226 x 131 x 35 mm excluding antennas. It sits on a desktop or wall, or in a rack with the Kit-D226 rackmount kit sold separately, and operates from 0 to 40 °C. In the box are the gateway, power adapter, Ethernet cable, phone cable and quick installation guide.
