The TP-Link Deco X73-DSL(1-pack) is one Deco X73-DSL: an AX5400 Wi-Fi 6 mesh modem router with a built-in VDSL2 35b/ADSL modem, two FXS phone ports for VoIP telephony, a USB 3.0 port and four gigabit WAN/LAN ports. TP-Link rates the 1-pack for 1-3 bedroom houses, with 4804 Mbps on 5 GHz, 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and HomeShield security.

Deco X73-DSL(1-pack) overview

The Deco X73-DSL(1-pack) is a single Deco X73-DSL in the box, the DSL gateway of TP-Link's X73 mesh family. The 2-pack and 3-pack versions add plain Deco X73 satellite units; this pack is just the modem router, which TP-Link rates for 1-3 bedroom houses on its own, and which can be joined later by any Deco unit, sold separately, to form one mesh network. TP-Link sums it up as high-quality telephony with superior mesh Wi-Fi: a VDSL/ADSL modem, Wi-Fi 6, TP-Link Mesh and VoIP in one device, saving a separate modem.

The modem supports Super VDSL, VDSL2 profile 35b, which TP-Link says increases downstream to up to 350 Mbps, 3.5 times its VDSL2 predecessor at 100 Mbps, and the DSL port also supports VDSL2, ADSL2+, ADSL2 and ADSL with G.vector and G.INP. Telephony is what sets it apart from the Deco X50-DSL: two FXS phone ports let you plug in handsets for VoIP telephony, and TP-Link lists 250 minutes of voicemail storage. Setup is to connect the unit to the splitter or directly to the phone jack (direct if you will not use a traditional landline service), power on and follow the Deco app.

Wi-Fi is AX5400 dual band: 4804 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz with 802.11ax, from four internal antennas with beamforming, MU-MIMO, OFDMA, 1024-QAM and BSS Colour. TP-Link quotes coverage of up to 270 m² and connections for up to 200 devices for the Deco X73-DSL. Wired connectivity is four gigabit Ethernet WAN/LAN auto-sensing ports, any of which can serve as a backup broadband input like an ordinary router, and a USB 3.0 port for local storage, a media server or FTP remote access. WAN types include Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, L2TP, PPTP, PPPoA, IPoA and DS-Lite.

HomeShield brings real-time IoT protection, a malicious site blocker, intrusion prevention, DDoS prevention, a home network scanner, parental controls, QoS and reports, and there are 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz guest networks with WPA, WPA2 and WPA3-Personal security. IPTV is supported with IGMP proxy and snooping, bridge and tag VLAN, and Alexa voice control is available. The unit measures 130 x 123 x 210.5 mm and is CE and RCM certified; TP-Link lists V1 and V1.40 hardware. The 1-pack box contains one Deco X73-DSL unit, one RJ45 Ethernet cable, two RJ11 DSL cables, one external DSL splitter, one power adapter, a telephony feature guide and a quick installation guide.
