The Cisco CWDM-SFP-1590 in depth

One wavelength of a CWDM system

The CWDM-SFP-1590 transmits on the 1590 nm CWDM channel. Combined with Cisco CWDM multiplexers and the other channel SFPs, up to eight Gigabit Ethernet or Fibre Channel links can share single-mode fibre, adding capacity without new fibre runs.

Budget and short links

Cisco quotes a 29 dB link budget for Gigabit Ethernet and 28 dB for Fibre Channel. On short fibre runs an inline optical attenuator may be needed so the receiver is not overloaded.
