The Cisco CW9176D1-RTG in depth

High-performance Wi-Fi 7

The Cisco Wireless 9176 Series is designed for high-density environments and critical applications. The 9176D1 uses a built-in directional antenna for high ceilings such as auditoriums and warehouses, removing the need for extra antenna hardware. Cisco's Wi-Fi 6 indoor end-of-life notice names the 9176I as the migration product for the Catalyst 9120AXI.

Cloud or on-premises

The same AP can be managed in the Meraki dashboard or by Catalyst 9800 controllers and Catalyst Center, and the management mode can be changed later without new hardware. -RTG is Cisco's Ready to go device category; Wi-Fi 7 APs are global use with no regulatory domain part number.

Power planning

Meraki notes CW9176 models need 802.3bt Class 6 power for full operation. On 802.3at the 2.4 GHz radio drops to 2x2 and the link to 2.5G with USB off.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the Cisco CW9176D1-RTG from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.

802.3bt for full operation: 4x4 on all radios, 10G link and USB, up to 39W. On 802.3at PoE+ it runs 2x2/4x4/4x4 at 2.5G with USB off (25.5W); 802.3af is low-power mode only.

Cisco's ordering guide lists two device categories for Wi-Fi 7 APs: RTG (Ready to go, fastest shipment with default choices) and CFG (Configurable, with customisable accessories and packaging such as mounting bracket and ceiling clip options). The access point hardware is the same model.

Yes. Cisco states that Wi-Fi 7 access points are global use access points: no regulatory domain code is needed, and the AP determines its physical locality on install. Meraki lists AS/NZS 4268 (Australia/NZ) among its radio approvals.

Yes. Cisco Wi-Fi 7 access points require a Cisco Networking Subscription (Cisco Wireless Essentials or Advantage), or Meraki co-term licensing for cloud-only use; Cisco's ordering guide also offers an opt-out hardware-only choice at order time.

Cisco recommends the CW-INJ-8 802.3bt injector; the MA-INJ-6 and AIR-PWRINJ-7 802.3bt injectors are also supported. The power cord is ordered separately.
