The TP-Link CPE610 is a 5 GHz 300 Mbps outdoor CPE with a 23 dBi 2x2 MIMO directional Cassegrain antenna and a dedicated metal reflector for long-distance outdoor Wi-Fi transmission. It adds Pharos MAXtream TDMA, an IP65 water- and dust-proof enclosure, 15 kV ESD and 6 kV lightning protection, passive PoE power, and Pharos Control centralised management for outdoor wireless networking applications.

CPE610 overview

The CPE610 is TP-Link's 5 GHz 300 Mbps 23 dBi outdoor CPE from the Pharos range. TP-Link describes it as having a 23 dBi directional antenna and professional structural stability for long-distance outdoor Wi-Fi transmission. The antenna is a high-gain directional 2x2 MIMO Cassegrain design with a dedicated metal reflector, which TP-Link says provides excellent beam directivity, improved latency and noise immunity. The beamwidth is narrow, at 9 degrees azimuth and 7 degrees elevation. TP-Link calls the CPE610 an ideal choice and cost-effective solution for outdoor wireless networking applications.

The radio is IEEE 802.11a/n, operating from 5.15 to 5.85 GHz, with a maximum transmit power of 25 dBm that is adjustable in 1 dBm steps. Wireless speeds are up to 300 Mbps at 40 MHz channel width, 144.4 Mbps at 20 MHz, 72.2 Mbps at 10 MHz and 36.1 Mbps at 5 MHz. Pharos MAXtream TDMA technology provides a proprietary TDMA mode when MAXtream is enabled. Wireless configuration includes selectable 5/10/20/40 MHz channel width, auto channel selection, transmit power control, Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS), WDS, distance/ACK timeout setting, multi-SSID with VLAN tagging (AP mode only), WPA/WPA2 and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK encryption, and a wireless MAC address filter.

For management, the CPE610 comes with Pharos Control centralised management software, which helps users manage all devices in their network from a single PC, with device discovery, status monitoring, firmware upgrading and network maintenance. The web-based PharOS interface provides an alternative method and gives professionals access to more detailed configuration. Other management features are HTTP/HTTPS web management, a system log, SNMP agent (v2c), Ping Watch Dog, dynamic DDNS and an SSH server. System tools include signal strength, noise, transmit CCQ, CPU and memory indicators, throughput and station monitors, a spectrum analyser, speed test, ping and traceroute. Network features include static, dynamic, PPPoE, L2TP and PPTP WAN, DHCP, an SPI firewall, DoS protection, access control, static routing, bandwidth control and IP and MAC binding.

Inside is a Qualcomm 560 MHz MIPS 74Kc CPU with 64 MB DDR2 RAM and 8 MB flash. The CPE610 has one 10/100 Mbps shielded Ethernet port (LAN/PoE) and a reset button, and it is powered by passive PoE via LAN at 16-27 VDC; maximum power consumption is 7.41 W, and TP-Link notes that with passive PoE the power drawn from the source will be higher depending on cable length. The included 24 V passive PoE adapter supports Power over Ethernet up to 60 m and has a remote reset button. The outdoor PC stabilised plastic enclosure has an IP65 water- and dust-proof design, with 15 kV ESD and 6 kV lightning protection, and is rated for -40 to 70 °C operation. It measures 366 x 280 x 207 mm, and pole mounting straps are included. ARC IP Networks supplies the CPE610 from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
