The Cisco C9500-48Y4C-E in depth

High-performance 25G core in 1RU

The C9500-48Y4C-E is a high-performance member of the Catalyst 9500 family, Cisco's fixed core and aggregation switches. It packs 48 SFP28 ports that run at 1, 10 or 25 Gigabit and four 40/100 Gigabit uplinks into a single rack unit, with up to 3.2 Tbps of switching capacity from the UADP 3.0 ASIC.

Resilient by design

Two switches can be joined with StackWise Virtual and run Multichassis EtherChannel to downstream devices for a resilient core. Each switch takes dual 1+1 redundant power supplies and field-replaceable fan trays, and Cisco backs it with an Enhanced Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Programmable Cisco IOS XE

Cisco IOS XE adds model-driven programmability, streaming telemetry, on-box Python and container-based application hosting. The -E model includes Network Essentials, and Cisco requires an add-on Cisco DNA or Cisco Networking Subscription licence to be ordered with the switch.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the Cisco C9500-48Y4C-E from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.

It has 48 SFP28 ports that support 1, 10 or 25 Gigabit Ethernet, plus 4 uplink ports that support 40 or 100 Gigabit Ethernet.

The -E model includes the Network Essentials licence. Cisco states you must order an add-on licence to purchase the switch, such as Cisco DNA Essentials (C9500-DNA-E-3Y, -5Y or -7Y); the DNA tier must match the Network Essentials or Advantage licence.

Cisco states you can renew the add-on licence, or deactivate it and reload the switch to keep operating with the base licence capabilities.

Cisco lists the C9K-PWR-650WAC-R, C9K-PWR-650WACL-R and C9K-PWR-930WDC-R. The switch ships with one power supply and supports a second for 1+1 redundancy; the PWR-C4-950WAC-R is not supported on this model.

The Catalyst 9500 Series comes with the Cisco Enhanced Limited Lifetime Warranty, including next-business-day replacement hardware where available and 90 days of 8x5 TAC support.
