The Cisco ATA191-K9 in depth

Analog devices on a Cisco IP phone system

The ATA 191 turns traditional telephones, fax machines and overhead paging units into IP endpoints. Its two FXS ports register independently over SIP, so one adapter covers two analog lines, and it is the enterprise version for Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Unified CME.

Fax, voice quality and security

T.38 fax relay and G.711 pass-through handle Group 3 fax, while echo cancellation, voice activity detection and comfort noise give clear calls. SRTP, SIP over TLS, encrypted configuration files and secure boot protect media and signalling.

Licensing and versions

On Cisco Unified CM, the ATA 191 needs one Essential User Connect License per port. Cisco also sells a separate Multiplatform model, the ATA191-3PW-K9, for Webex Calling, BroadWorks and other third-party call control.
