The TP-Link Archer MR402-Outdoor is a 4G LTE outdoor router with AC1200 dual-band Wi-Fi: insert a nano SIM for up to 150 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload, shared at up to 867 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. It runs from PoE (802.3af/at or 24 V passive) or DC, operates from -30 °C to 60 °C, and mounts on a pole, a wall or a window.

Archer MR402-Outdoor overview

The Archer MR402-Outdoor is a 4G LTE router built for outdoor installation that shares the mobile connection over dual-band Wi-Fi. Insert a nano SIM card and TP-Link rates the 4G link at up to 150 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload. Supported networks are 4G FDD-LTE bands B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B20 and B28 (2100, 1800, 850, 2600, 900, 800 and 700 MHz), TDD-LTE bands B38, B40 and B41 (2600, 2300 and 2500 MHz), and 3G HSPA+/HSPA/UMTS bands B1, B5 and B8 (2100, 850 and 900 MHz). Two detachable LTE antennas are fitted. Check that the bands your provider uses in your area are on the list before ordering.

TP-Link designed the router for flexible installation: it can be mounted on a pole or a wall, or attached to a window with adhesive, and window, pole and wall mounting kits are included. TP-Link says that flexibility suits a wide range of environments, from urban areas to rural settings, and lets you find the optimal location for signal. It is rated to operate from -30 °C to 60 °C at 10% to 90% RH, and to be stored from -40 °C to 70 °C. The unit measures 226.6 x 100 x 54.7 mm. TP-Link's published specifications do not state an ingress protection (IP) rating, so plan the mounting position accordingly.

Power is equally flexible. The single 10/100 Mbps WAN/LAN port accepts PoE in, and TP-Link lists three power options: 12 V / 1 A DC through the DC port, 24 V / 0.5 A passive PoE, and 44-57 V / 0.35 A 802.3af/at PoE. A PoE adapter, an AC power cord and a 10-metre RJ45 Ethernet cable are in the box, so one cable can carry both power and data to the router. On the wireless side it is an AC1200 dual-band router supporting IEEE 802.11a/n/ac on 5 GHz at 867 Mbps and IEEE 802.11b/g/n on 2.4 GHz at 300 Mbps, with wireless scheduling, WMM and wireless statistics, and 64/128-bit WEP, WPA/WPA2 and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK encryption.

The software is a full router feature set. Operating modes are 3G/4G Router and Wireless Router, and WAN types include Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, and PPTP and L2TP with dual access. Security covers DoS protection, IPv4 SPI and IPv6 firewalls, and IP and MAC address binding. There are PPTP, IPSec and OpenVPN VPN servers, PPTP, L2TP and IPSec VPN pass-through, a guest network on each band, parental controls, access control, TP-Link DDNS, DynDNS and NO-IP, and a reboot schedule. Set it up in minutes through the web interface or the Tether app, which also manages network settings, parental controls and access control from Android or iOS. ARC IP Networks supplies the Archer MR402-Outdoor from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
