The TP-Link Archer BE800 is a BE19000 tri-band Wi-Fi 7 router with 12 streams: 11520 Mbps on 6 GHz, 5760 Mbps on 5 GHz and 1376 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. It has two 10 Gbps WAN/LAN ports, one of them an SFP+/RJ45 combo for fibre or copper, four 2.5 Gbps LAN ports, USB 3.0, a customisable LED screen and eight antennas for four-bedroom houses.

Archer BE800 overview

The Archer BE800 is TP-Link's BE19000 tri-band Wi-Fi 7 router with 12 streams. TP-Link rates the 6 GHz band at 11520 Mbps, the 5 GHz band at 5760 Mbps and the 2.4 GHz band at 1376 Mbps, all 802.11be, and describes the result as unprecedented 19 Gbps tri-band Wi-Fi for 8K streaming, VR/AR, video conferencing, online gaming and high-speed downloading. Wi-Fi 7 features are Multi-Link Operation (MLO), 320 MHz channels, 4K-QAM and Multi-RUs. Capacity is rated high, with tri-band allocation, 4x4 MU-MIMO, OFDMA, Airtime Fairness, DFS and the 12 streams.

TP-Link calls its wired design true 10G connectivity. There are two 10 Gbps WAN/LAN ports: one RJ45 port and one SFP+ fibre/RJ45 Ethernet combo port, giving flexible support for fibre and copper connections. Four 2.5 Gbps LAN ports and a USB 3.0 port complete the set, which TP-Link presents as future-proofing your home network. The SFP+ combo port is the key difference from the Archer BE805, which has the same BE19000 Wi-Fi but a 10 Gbps WAN, a 10 Gbps LAN, four 1 Gbps LAN ports and two USB 3.0 ports, and no SFP+ port.

The other distinctive feature is the LED screen on the front of the tower. TP-Link says it displays the weather, time, text and even emojis, with up to 3000+ customised graphics. Coverage is sized for four-bedroom houses: eight optimally positioned antennas form a signal-boosting array, beamforming concentrates signal on clients and a high-power FEM improves transmission power. The housing measures 96 x 302 x 262.5 mm and runs from a 15 V 5 A supply. The router is EasyMesh-compatible for building a whole-home multi-gigabit mesh, and works with Alexa and Google Assistant.

Security is handled by HomeShield, with real-time IoT protection, a malicious site blocker, an intrusion prevention system, DDoS attack prevention and a home network scanner, plus an SPI firewall, access control, IP and MAC binding and an application layer gateway. You can set up a private IoT network overlaid with HomeShield and WPA3, and get phone notifications when new devices connect so suspicious connections can be kicked off and blocked. Encryption options are WPA, WPA2, WPA3 and WPA/WPA2-Enterprise, there is a guest network on each band, and OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP and WireGuard run as VPN servers and clients.

Parental controls let you block inappropriate content and set time ranges through HomeShield profiles, a content filter library, Family Time, Bedtime, Off Time, Time Rewards, Pause the Internet and reports. Setup takes minutes with the Tether app on Android or iOS or TP-Link's web interface, and OTA firmware updates can run on an automatic schedule. Other software includes QoS by device, IPTV (IGMP proxy, IGMP snooping, bridge, tag VLAN), Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP WAN types, Router and Access Point modes, and IPv4/IPv6. The USB 3.0 port shares NTFS, exFAT, HFS+ or FAT32 drives via FTP, media server or Samba. Operating range is 0 to 40 degrees C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity; certifications are CE and FCC. In the box: the Archer BE800, a power adapter, an RJ45 Ethernet cable and a quick installation guide.
