The TP-Link Archer AXE75 is an AXE5400 tri-band Wi-Fi 6E router that adds the 6 GHz band: 2402 Mbps on 6 GHz, 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. Six antennas with beamforming and a high-power FEM cover two- to three-bedroom houses, and it has a 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port, a gigabit WAN/LAN port, three gigabit LAN ports, USB 2.0, HomeShield, VPN server and client and EasyMesh support.

Archer AXE75 overview

The Archer AXE75 is TP-Link's AXE5400 tri-band gigabit Wi-Fi 6E router. Wi-Fi 6E adds a third, brand-new 6 GHz band which, as TP-Link puts it, has no overlap or interference from other bands and older devices, so compatible devices get a congestion-free frequency with more bandwidth, faster speed and lower latency. All three radios use 802.11ax: 6 GHz at up to 2402 Mbps, 5 GHz (IEEE 802.11ax/ac/n/a) at up to 2402 Mbps and 2.4 GHz (IEEE 802.11ax/n/b/g) at up to 574 Mbps, adding up to the AXE5400 class. TP-Link pitches those speeds at fluent 4K and 8K streaming, AR and VR gaming and fast downloads.

Capacity is rated as very high. The tri-band design allocates devices to different bands, OFDMA communicates with multiple Wi-Fi 6 clients simultaneously, Airtime Fairness limits excessive occupation, DFS opens an extra band to reduce congestion and six streams provide more bandwidth; TP-Link says the router can handle a capacity of up to 200+ devices, which suits homes full of IoT gear. Six fixed high-performance antennas, beamforming and a high-power FEM give coverage listed for two- to three-bedroom houses, and for dead zones the Archer AXE75 is EasyMesh-compatible, so you can add another EasyMesh router or range extender to form a whole-home mesh.

On the wired side there is one 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port, which TP-Link says is 2.5 times faster than a gigabit port and can be used as either WAN or LAN, plus one 1 Gbps WAN/LAN port and three 1 Gbps LAN ports. The USB 2.0 port supports NTFS, exFAT, HFS+ and FAT32 drives and offers Apple Time Machine, an FTP server, a media server and a Samba server. WAN types are Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP, the router runs in Router Mode or Access Point Mode, and IPTV support covers IGMP proxy, IGMP snooping, bridge and tag VLAN, with IPv4, IPv6 and QoS by device.

Security is built on HomeShield, with real-time IoT protection, a malicious site blocker, an intrusion prevention system, DDoS attack prevention and a home network scanner, on top of an SPI firewall, access control, IP and MAC binding and an application layer gateway. You can set up a separate private Wi-Fi network for IoT devices and protect it with HomeShield and WPA3; encryption options are WPA, WPA2, WPA3 and WPA/WPA2-Enterprise (802.1x). Guest networks are available on all three bands. The Archer AXE75 runs OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP VPN servers and clients, and HomeShield parental controls include custom profiles, a professional content filter library, Family Time, Bedtime, Off Time, Time Rewards, family online time ranking, Pause the Internet and weekly and monthly reports.

Setup follows the Tether app's on-screen directions in three steps, and the router is also managed through its web page, with automatic firmware upgrades, TP-Link ID and DDNS (TP-Link, NO-IP and DynDNS). It has a WPS/Wi-Fi button, a power on/off button, an LED on/off button and a reset button, runs from a 12 V 2.5 A supply and measures 272.5 x 147.2 x 49.2 mm. Operating temperature is 0 to 40 degrees C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity. In the box are the Archer AXE75 router, a power adapter, an RJ45 Ethernet cable and a quick installation guide.
