The figures above are the radio's full capability. In Australia the unit must be set to the local regulatory domain and operated within the ACMA class licence for the band — the available channels and power limits here are narrower than the radio's worldwide range.

The PoE injector is supplied in the box, so the unit only needs an outlet and a cable run.

Power is passive PoE, not 802.3af/at. A standard PoE switch port will not power it correctly — use the matching injector or a passive-PoE capable port at the right voltage.

Who the Wave-AP suits

  • WISPs and campuses feeding many client radios from one tower or rooftop
  • Sites where a single sector needs to cover a spread of subscribers
  • Networks growing past what a single point-to-point hop can serve

Planning a link with the Wave-AP

The Wave-AP is the hub of a point-to-multipoint network: subscriber radios connect back to it. Each remote site needs its own client radio.

Whatever the topology, budget for the mount, earthing and surge protection as part of the job — an outdoor radio on an un-earthed mast is the single most common cause of a failed link after a storm.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Ubiquiti Wave-AP?

The Wave Access Point is a 60 GHz PtMP base station with 24 dBi of antenna gain.

What throughput does the Wave-AP deliver?

5.4 Gbps. Real-world results depend on path length, line of sight, interference and the channel width you can legally use.

How far will the Wave-AP reach?

Connecting to a Wave Pro: up to 8 km (5 mi) Connecting to a Wave Long-Range: up to 8 km (5 mi) Connecting to a Wave Nano: up to 5 km (3.1 mi) Connecting to a Wave Pico: up to 1.3 km (0.8 mi) with clear line of sight. Obstructions in the Fresnel zone reduce that significantly.

What frequencies does the Wave-AP use?

57–71 GHz. In Australia it must be set to the local regulatory domain and operated within the ACMA class licence for the band.

What is the antenna gain of the Wave-AP?

24 dBi, Vertically-Linear polarisation.

Does the Wave-AP include a PoE injector?

48V DC, 0.65A 2.5GbE PoE adapter (Included).

How is the Wave-AP powered?

Passive PoE 4-pairs (1, 2+; 3, 6-) (4, 5+; 7, 8-) Passive PoE 2-pairs (4, 5+; 7, 8-), for 44–54V DC only. This is passive PoE, not 802.3af/at, so a standard PoE switch port will not power it correctly.
