Ubiquiti LBE-5AC-LR: 5 GHz wireless CPE / client

An affordable airMAX AC CPE designed for long-distance links.

Link performance

SpecificationValue
Operating modesAccess Point / Station
Channel bandwidthPtP mode: 10/20/30/40/50/60/80 MHz PtMP mode: 10/20/30/40 MHz
QoSWMM packet classification with user-level priority: High, Medium, Low

The LBE-5AC-LR runs as either end of a link — access point or station — so a point-to-point hop is built from two units, one at each site, unless you are connecting to an existing base station.

Antenna

SpecificationValue
Antenna gain26 dBi

Frequency and regulatory

SpecificationValue
Supported frequency range5150-5875 MHz

The figures above are the radio's full capability. In Australia the unit must be set to the local regulatory domain and operated within the ACMA class licence for the band — the available channels and power limits here are narrower than the radio's worldwide range.

Power and network

SpecificationValue
Network interface(1) GbE RJ45 port
Power methodPassive PoE 2-pair (4, 5+; 7, 8 return)
Power supply24V, 0.3A gigabit PoE adapter (Included)
Supported voltage range20-27V DC
Max. power consumption7W

The PoE injector is supplied in the box, so the unit only needs an outlet and a cable run.

Power is passive PoE, not 802.3af/at. A standard PoE switch port will not power it correctly — use the matching injector or a passive-PoE capable port at the right voltage.

Who the LBE-5AC-LR suits

  • Subscriber ends of a WISP network, connecting back to a base station
  • Rural and semi-rural sites with no fixed-line option
  • Sheds, gates and outbuildings that need the main network extended to them

Planning a link with the LBE-5AC-LR

The LBE-5AC-LR is the subscriber end of a link. It connects to a base station — it does not form a link on its own.

Whatever the topology, budget for the mount, earthing and surge protection as part of the job — an outdoor radio on an un-earthed mast is the single most common cause of a failed link after a storm.
