Hikvision PanoVu is a family of panoramic multi-sensor cameras that combine several image sensors in one housing, stitched into a single seamless ultra-wide 180° view. One camera, one cable and one field of view replace several separate cameras across wide open areas. Available in Australia from ARC IP Networks, an authorised Hikvision reseller.

Best for: wide open areas
Coverage: seamless 180°
Sensors: multiple in one body
Cabling: single run
Range: 4MP to 8MP

What is Hikvision PanoVu?

Hikvision PanoVu is the name for Hikvision’s panoramic multi-sensor cameras. Instead of a single lens and sensor, a PanoVu-style camera carries two or more image sensors inside one weatherproof housing. The camera stitches those sensor images together on-board into a single, continuous panoramic picture — typically a wide 180° view across the whole scene.

The result is one camera that sees far more than a standard fixed camera. Where you might once have mounted three or four separate cameras to cover a long wall, a yard boundary or an open forecourt, a panoramic multi-sensor camera can deliver that same sweep from a single position — with no blind seam in the middle.

Popular in-stock models such as the DS-2CD2346G2P, DS-2CD2367G2P and DS-2CD2387G2P pair Hikvision’s dual-sensor panoramic design with ColorVu full-colour night imaging and AcuSense people-and-vehicle detection, so you get wide coverage, colour after dark and smarter alerts in one unit.

How multi-sensor stitching works

Each sensor in a PanoVu camera looks at its own slice of the scene through its own lens. The two (or more) slices overlap slightly at the edges. Inside the camera, image processing lines up those overlapping edges and blends them into one wide panoramic frame — much like a panorama photo on a phone, but stitched live and continuously.

Why not just use a fisheye?

A single fisheye lens also gives a wide view, but it bends the image and spreads its pixels thinly across a huge angle, so distant detail softens. A multi-sensor panoramic camera instead uses several full sensors side by side, keeping resolution high and the image close to natural proportions right across the width. You get breadth and usable detail, not one at the cost of the other.

One stream, one recording feed

Because the stitching happens in the camera, the recorder and your operators see a single wide image over a single network cable. There is no manual alignment to set up and no gap to patrol between cameras.

One panoramic camera vs several single cameras

The clearest way to understand the value is to compare a single panoramic multi-sensor camera against the cluster of standard cameras it can replace.

Rule of thumb: choose panoramic multi-sensor when one open area needs continuous wide coverage; choose several cameras when you must cover separated rooms, corners or corridors that a single sweep cannot reach.

Best uses for panoramic multi-sensor cameras

Panoramic cameras shine wherever a wide, open scene needs to be watched as a single continuous picture.

Car parks & forecourts

Cover multiple parking rows and the entry lane from one mount, tracking vehicles and people across the whole area without switching cameras.

Yards & compounds

Watch a long fence line, loading yard or storage compound edge-to-edge, removing the seams between separate cameras.

Intersections & approaches

See all approaches to a junction, gate or driveway in one frame so nothing crosses the scene unseen.

Large open spaces

Warehouses, showrooms, plazas and building frontages get broad situational awareness from a single well-placed unit.

Perimeters & boundaries

Follow the full length of a wall or boundary line, ideal when paired with AcuSense to flag people and vehicles.

Building entrances

Capture a wide entrance apron and the paths leading to it, keeping arrivals and departures in one continuous view.

Channels, recording and network

Because the panorama is stitched inside the camera, a PanoVu-style unit presents to your recorder much like a normal IP camera: one wide video stream over one network cable, powered by PoE. That keeps wiring and switch ports simple even though you are covering a large area.

  • Recording: the camera records to a compatible Hikvision NVR (or, on supported models, to an on-board microSD card). Check each model’s datasheet for its exact channel and storage behaviour.
  • Bandwidth & storage: a wide, high-resolution panorama carries plenty of detail, so allow generous storage and use the camera’s H.265 compression to keep files efficient.
  • NVR compatibility: pair with a current Hikvision AcuSense NVR to make the most of smart detection and easy search. Our team can confirm the right recorder for your chosen model.
Planning tip: mount panoramic cameras at a steady height over a mostly flat, open scene. They are designed to sweep wide areas, not to peer around corners or down narrow corridors.

How to choose the right panoramic camera

Start with the area you need to cover and how much detail you want across it. Higher resolution models such as the 8MP DS-2CD2387G2P hold more detail across the full width, which helps on larger scenes; 4MP and 6MP options suit tighter budgets and smaller areas.

Then choose the form factor. Turret models like the DS-2CD2346G2P are compact and neat for walls and eaves; bullet models like the DS-2CD2T87G2P are prominent and easy to aim along a boundary or driveway. For night colour, look for ColorVu; for smart people-and-vehicle alerts, look for AcuSense. If you are unsure, talk to the ARC IP Networks team and we will match a model to your site.

Frequently asked questions

It is a panoramic multi-sensor camera that houses two or more image sensors in one body and stitches them into a single seamless wide view, usually 180 degrees. One camera covers what several standard cameras would.

A fisheye uses one lens to bend a very wide view into a single sensor, which softens distant detail. A multi-sensor panoramic camera uses several full sensors side by side, keeping resolution high and proportions natural across the whole width.

It depends on your scene, but a single panoramic camera can cover an area that would otherwise need three or more standard cameras - with no blind seam between angles. It suits wide, open, mostly flat spaces.

Just one. The panorama is stitched inside the camera, so it connects over a single PoE network cable to one switch port, like a standard IP camera.

Models with ColorVu deliver full-colour images in low light, and warm-light variants add supplementary illumination. Check each model's datasheet for its exact night-imaging features.

Pair it with a compatible Hikvision NVR, ideally a current AcuSense model to make the most of smart detection and search. The ARC IP Networks team can confirm the right recorder for your chosen camera.

Wide, open scenes such as car parks, yards, compounds, intersections, plazas and building frontages, where continuous edge-to-edge coverage from one point is more useful than several separate views.
