The HiLook NVR-232MH-K/16P is a 32-channel Pro-series recorder — but note it has 16 built-in PoE ports, not 32. Cameras 17–32 connect through a separate switch on the network. It records up to 12 MP with 256 Mbps of incoming bandwidth and runs analytics on the recorder itself.

Why choose the NVR-232MH-K/16P

The HiLook NVR-232MH-K/16P is for sites that have outgrown 16 cameras. It accepts 32 channels with 256 Mbps of incoming bandwidth and records up to 12 MP. The one thing to plan for: it provides 16 PoE ports, not 32, so cameras 17 to 32 need their own PoE switch feeding the recorder over the network. That is normal for this class of recorder, but it does mean budgeting for a switch alongside it. Supplied and supported by ARC IP Networks with genuine Australian stock, Australian warranty and local support.

Plan for this: the recorder accepts 32 channels but has 16 PoE ports. Cameras 17–32 need a separate PoE switch feeding the recorder over the network. Outgoing bandwidth is also 160 Mbps against 256 Mbps incoming, so remote viewing capacity is lower than recording capacity.

Best for

  • Systems of up to 32 cameras: 16 PoE ports built in, so each camera needs one cable and nothing else.
  • Simple installs: no separate injectors or PoE switch to buy, mount or power.
  • 4K displays: HDMI output to 4K, with a second independent view on VGA.
  • Sites needing analytics on the recorder: facial recognition and perimeter protection run on the box, not just the cameras.

Professional Overview

The HiLook by Hikvision NVR-232MH-K/16P is a powerful and robust 16-channel Network Video Recorder, engineered to serve as the central hub for extensive IP video surveillance systems. This NVR is capable of managing up to 16 IP camera inputs and delivers impressive decoding capabilities, supporting resolutions up to 12MP at 30 fps on 2 channels, 8MP on 4 channels, or full 1080p across 16 channels. This ensures crystal-clear live viewing and playback of your high-resolution security footage, providing detailed oversight crucial for effective incident management across large properties.

A key feature of the NVR-232MH-K/16P is its sixteen independent Power over Ethernet (PoE) network interfaces. This feature drastically simplifies installation for large camera deployments, as a single Ethernet cable can deliver both power and data to compatible IP cameras, eliminating the need for separate power supplies and streamlining cabling infrastructure. With a substantial 256 Mbps incoming bandwidth and an equally impressive 160 Mbps outgoing bandwidth, the NVR ensures smooth recording and efficient remote access, even when handling numerous high-resolution video streams simultaneously.

The NVR utilizes advanced H.265+ compression technology, which dramatically reduces bandwidth and storage requirements compared to previous standards without compromising video quality. This efficiency is further enhanced by the presence of two SATA interfaces, allowing for flexible storage expansion up to an impressive 16 TB per HDD, totaling 32 TB. The HDMI output supports resolutions up to 4K (3840 × 2160), providing a high-definition viewing experience on compatible monitors, vital for detailed security monitoring and evidence review.

Housed in a durable 1U metal chassis, the NVR-232MH-K/16P is built for reliability and long-term performance in various operating environments. It is an ideal solution for larger businesses, commercial properties, industrial sites, and extensive residential installations that require a robust, scalable, and easy-to-manage surveillance system with substantial camera capacity and significant storage. Compatible with the wide range of HiLook and Hikvision IP cameras, this NVR offers a cost-effective and high-performance foundation for comprehensive IP video security, ensuring peace of mind through reliable and detailed monitoring.

How it compares

The HiLook range splits into two tiers. C-series recorders are the value option: full PoE recording to 8 MP with human and vehicle classification. K-series recorders add deep-learning analytics on the recorder itself, 12 MP recording, larger drives and independent dual-monitor output.

Complete your system

This recorder powers and records up to 16 cameras over its built-in PoE ports. Pair it with HiLook turrets or bullets for a complete system — and remember to budget for a surveillance-rated hard drive if one is not already fitted.

Storage planning. This model takes 2 sata bays of up to 16 TB per bay. H.265+ compression stretches that considerably — but retention still depends on camera count, resolution and how much motion the site sees. Ask us and we will size it for you.

Frequently asked questions

It has 16 built-in PoE ports with a total budget of 200 W. A typical HiLook turret draws around 6 W, so the budget is comfortable — in practice port count is the limit, not wattage. Note this model accepts 32 channels but provides only 16 PoE ports: cameras 17 to 32 must be powered by a separate PoE switch and reach the recorder over the network.

Up to 12 MP per channel, with a 4K HDMI output.

It has 2 SATA bays, taking 16 TB per bay. Surveillance-rated drives are strongly recommended over desktop drives — they are built for continuous write.

Unlike the C-series, the K-series runs deep-learning analytics on the recorder itself: face capture and comparison against stored libraries (up to 16 libraries and 20,000 face images), perimeter protection, and human and vehicle classification. Worth knowing: facial recognition and Motion Detection 2.0 cannot be enabled at the same time, and on-device analytics run on 2 channels — analytics on every channel requires AI-capable cameras doing the work themselves.

The K-series is the newer generation. It runs deep-learning analytics on the recorder (facial recognition and perimeter protection), records up to 12 MP rather than 8 MP, has roughly four times the decoding headroom, takes 16 TB drives instead of 8 TB, and drives independent HDMI and VGA outputs so two monitors can show different views. The C-series mirrors the same image to both outputs and is the value option.

Yes. It has 1 audio input and 1 audio output on RCA connectors and supports one channel of two-way audio, so you can speak through a compatible camera or connected speaker.

It supports ONVIF Profile S and G alongside Hikvision's own SDK and ISAPI, so it works with most compatible third-party IP cameras as well as HiLook and Hikvision models.
